You can have your Black Friday filled with shoving & pushing inside big box stores— I will take the cooperativeness and appreciation by store management & friendly staff during Salem Small Business Saturday, November 24th.
There are 28.8 million small businesses in the country. Here in Salem Ma, there are easily 100 small businesses within 10-minute walk of the center of town. Most likely a similar situation exists in most cities. Perhaps not 100, but enough. What about in your community? These are the merchants that serve you & your neighbors day after day with competitive prices. They depend on you to come back again & again.
Now with the holiday season upon us and increased competition (read that as Black Friday and Cyber Monday), these stores along Main Street USA are looking for you to give them some of your shopping focus on Small Business Saturday.
According to the National Retail Federation: On average, holiday shoppers expect to spend $1,007.24 each. Of that, they’ll spend $637.67 on gifts. Another $215.04 will go for food, decorations, flowers, and greeting cards. They’ll also spend $154.53 to take advantage of the seasonal deals and promotions.
By shopping small, you are helping your community’s economy. Franchised small businesses employ roughly 8 million people and make up 40 % of all American retail jobs. That’s from the Small Business Administration.
Want more reasons to shop locally? A Civics Economics Study determined that if you spend $100 at a local business, roughly $68 stays in your local economy. If you spend the same amount at a large business, only $43 stays in the local economy.
