WhatsApp Hacked- Another hacking story. At least it isn’t Facebook. Oh wait, FB owns WhatsApp. Users are being requested to update the app after it was targeted by “an advanced cyber actor.”

Surveillance technology was reportedly “installed” by phoning targets through WhatsApp’s call functionality, giving them access to information including location data and private messages. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏽‍♀️ 👁 More

Social Media Losing Global Trust- The news on the international scene has been grim for social media. Weaponization, fake news, etc. Now a Pew Research Poll adds more fuel to the fire.

An international study released on Monday indicates that many people in 11 emerging economy nations report regularly seeing “false and misleading content long with new ideas.”

According to survey analysis “majorities in eight of these 11 countries feel these platforms have simultaneously increased the risk that people might be manipulated by domestic politicians. Around half or more in eight countries also think these platforms increase the risk that foreign powers might interfere in their country’s elections.” 👁 More
