Counterfeit Items on Instagram- According to a survey by Ghost Data, 20% of all fashion posts on Instagram feature at least one counterfeit item. SLICE SPECIAL OF THE DAY

Facebook Updates Video Guidelines- More high-quality videos, and less “unoriginal or repurposed” content are the goals of recent changes at FB. TechCrunch broke them all down in a recent post that we are linking to. 👁 More

INTERNATIONAL SLICE

Social Media by Government Discretion- Legislation that gives foreign governments full discretion over what is considered true or false on social media has tech giants like Facebook and Google shaking in their boots a bit. For example, Singapore just passed a new law requiring online platforms remove content the government deems fraudulent. Or at the least issue warnings and corrections. Big fines await platforms that don’t comply.

Problem is, say the tech Giants, the power to determine what is real and what is “fake news” is not in the hands of the public but in the minds of whichever political group is in power in each country.

How does this apply to you? According to a Cheddar story “Individuals found guilty of producing fake news, manipulating search algorithms, or creating fraudulent social media accounts can be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and be fined up to $730,000.”

Might what you say in one nation be considered “fake news” in another and subject you to fines? 👁 More
