Social Media Slice for September 9, 2019: DHS Ramps Up Social Media Monitoring of People Entering US; Writing Perfect Tweets for High Engagement; Delivering Content for a Membership Program

DHS Ramps Up Social Media Monitoring of People Entering US-
Just as we have sadly learned that Facebook can be used for more devious things than a way for shy frat boys to pick up girls, is social media itself becoming a “big brother-like” tool of intimidation? Monitoring is mostly geared towards “immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees” but there have been incidents.

“…in several incidents, U.S. border officials have reportedly denied entry to individuals after searching their phones and obtaining evidence as scant as who they follow on social media. In one high-profile incident, a Harvard student from Lebanon said he was denied entry because a border agent searched his phone and found that his social media accounts followed people expressing “political points of view that oppose the U.S.”—with immigration officials never publicly explaining what they found so objectionable.” – Tom McKay, writing for Gizmodo

Delivering Content for a Membership Program-
Based on your goals, budget and technical abilities what is the best way to build your site and actually host &  deliver all your content?
Kim Garst has 3 source solutions: using a web-based app, a WordPress plugin, or a membership/social networking hybrid.

“Web-based membership apps (sometimes referred to simply as membership software) are programs that let you create your membership site, and then give you all the tools and features you need to deliver your content to members.

Most include built-in themes you can choose from and then edit to suit your needs. They will also usually allow you to accept payments, email your members, protect your content, and handle all the technical aspects of managing your memberships.” – Kim Garst
